My Body Utopia Shop Spotlight & Review + Giveaway

My Thoughts:

First of all, this review for My Body Utopia has been a long time coming, so long in fact that the packaging on the product that I received has been updated as you can see in the above picture. Don’t worry pictures of my actual product will be seen below!

Sparkling Meadows Natural Deodorant:

This was my first time trying an all natural deodorant and, I must say, I was skeptical at first. I had been using the same deodorant for so long and I knew that it worked so why rock the boat! I am so glad I tried this product!

The deodorant I was using did work but I didn’t realize how poorly it had been working until I tried My Body Utopia’s natural deodorant. Not only did it smell better, it lasted long and kept my underarms dry longer too. (All important characteristics of any deodorant, in my opinion.)

The one thing that I didn’t like at first was the texture. It seemed like it was too soft compared to the deodorants I knew. However, after I had been using it for a while the texture became less of an issue.

Another thing I like is that it seems to last a little longer than the tube I bought at the store and when you consider the benefits of all natural the difference in price is no big deal!

Deoderant

Product Details:

All of My Body Utopia’s natural deodorants are hand made. The Sparkling Meadows scent that I reviewed is made with coconut oil, shea butter, vitamin E, beeswax, arrowroot powder, baking soda, bentonite clay, and floral fragrance. Currently, you can purchase a regular size 2.5 oz. tube ($8.50) or a 0.625 oz. trial size tube ($3.25) in whichever scent you choose.

Currently available aluminum free scents include: Fresh Cotton, Fruity Splash,
Land of Lavender, Pure Man of Steel, Scent Free, Sparkling Meadows,
and Zesty Lemongrass

Kitchen Clean Hands Soap:

First impression of this bar of soap? It smells wonderful!

I am not a big fan of bar soaps because they usually leave my hands feeling almost too clean. You know kind of squeaky. I hate that.

This bar of soap doesn’t do that. My hands felt clean but it was a good kind of clean feeling. A natural kind of clean feeling.

My Body Utopia advertises that this soap will get rid of onion and garlic smells that stick to your hands after cooking. A claim I was skeptical of because, let’s face it, onion and garlic odors hang around forever. So I tested it out!

Much to my surprise, it worked! I didn’t completely get rid of the smell with the first wash but after a second round, if I hadn’t known I had just been slicing and onion, I wouldn’t after smelling my hands either.

Kitchen Clean Soap

Soaps are cut so you receive about 4.25 oz. in each bar.

My Thoughts

My first thought as I pulled these key chains out of the package was that they seemed durable and they were adorable. In my opinion, durable is a good characteristic for a key chain to have and being cute is just an added bonus!

I received two key chains and a bag charm for this review.

The breastfeeding  key chain is done on black leather with teal stitching and the cloth diapering key chain is on white leather with purple stitching. They are a little less than 2 inches wide by 2 inches tall and fully double sided. These two fold over the metal ring and then stitched together, keeping the leather securely attached to the key ring. The ring it is still very mobile, making it easy to attach and remove from your keys.

Breastfeeding & Cloth Diapering
P.S. The tiny blue thread on the breastfeeding key chain is because I snagged it on my purse zipper. Oops!

Another thing that I like is that the stitches are neat and the threads are trimmed nicely. The bright colors are a lot of fun and Dragonling loves to chew on them! (Teething means everything is fair game for our chewing needs!)

The other product I received was a blue Police box bag charm. The bag charm is done on blue pleather with black and white stitching and backed in a white pleather. The charm has a tab that flips through the clip at the top and secured with a grey plastic snap.

Blue Police Box

Again the stitching is nice and even and the threads have been clipped so you don’t have strings hanging down. A perfect gift for any Whovian!

According to Sheila’s Etsy page,

“I’ve been sewing as long as I can remember, and it is no stretch to say that sewing is in my bones. Literally. When I was a child, my mother and my grandmothers were excellent seamstresses and let me create with them my whole life growing up. At some point in my life, while under their guidance, I must have slipped away and stepped on a needle…because some twenty years later an X-ray revealed one embedded deep in my foot! This caused a minor panic in the ER, but it was painless, and had been present for years so I opted not to have surgery. That needle remains with me even now as a very special connection to my craft.”

Kind of a fun little story! Sheila has been sewing her whole life and you can definitely tell by the level of craftsmanship in these beautiful leather key chains.

*** I received complimentary product for the purpose of review. The views expressed here are entirely my own. I only review products I would purchase for myself or my family.

Sheila Ryan is the heart and soul of Babymoon Boutique. She decided to open her own shop after the birth of her fifth child. She had been working in another shop and decided she was ready to set out on her own!

The things in her shop may be made by her but she has a supportive team in her husband and her nine children. Who better for an honest product review than family, right?

From her Etsy About page,

A babymoon is that sweet time when a mother, and family, welcomes the newest little addition to their home. It is a time of gentleness, reflection, love and peace, and it is these qualities I strive to incorporate in all of my products. The time with a newborn is so very precious and short, but so incredibly powerful in the life and growth of a new mother. Supporting new moms is one of my dear passions in real life, and the bonds I’ve made with dear friends through my former work with la leche league will last forever.

MKnits4Sanity Infinity Scarf Review & Shop Credit Giveaway

MKnits4Sanity Infinity Scarf Review Promo

As a life long Iowan, during the winter, I am always on the look out for a good scarf! In my opinion you can’t have too many scarves, they really are the perfect accessory.

Today, I am happy to be able to bring you a review of the perfect addition to any scarf collection.

My Thoughts

The multi-color wave crocheted infinity scarf from MKnits4Sanity is the ideal three seasons scarf.

Wrapped twice around the neck it provides a little warmth that would be right for blocking the chill in the Spring or Fall. Then, if you wrap it a third time it adds just the right amount of bulk to cover your whole neck for wear during the frigid Winter months.

The scarf is crocheted on the diagonal using Red Heart Boutique Treasure Yarn in Tapestry. This type of yarn is 70% acrylic and 30% wool, giving it a durable, yet soft feel. This also means the care of the scarf is very simple, just wash on cold and lay flat to dry. The Tapestry yarn has a variegated color palette, which includes deep purple, forest green, red, orange, and brown that naturally form stripes in the finished product.

Being a crocheter myself, I’d also like to point out that the tension in the yarn is perfect. The stitches are nice and even, making the width down the entire length of the scarf very uniform. The finishing is also nicely done with no loose ends hanging down to get caught in a loose zipper.

Overall, MKnits4Sanity has provided a beautiful, expertly scarf that I cannot wait to show off!

***MKnits4Sanity provided me, The Math Lovin’ Momma, with this infinity scarf, free of charge, for the purposes of review. The views expressed here are entirely my own. I only review products I would purchase for myself or my family.

My Life is #MadeWithLove

So many things in my life have been #MadeWithLove it’s hard for me to even begin to talk about those that are most important to me. There are the objects that I have that were #MadeWithLove, of course, but there are also personal connections, family, and memories that were #MadeWithLove.

My kitchen is a mess

Growing up I was surrounded by people who took pride in creating things that were #MadeWithLove. My grandmother, my mother, and my aunts spent hours sewing and crafting things for gifts, craft fairs, and just for fun. They instilled in me the love of making things with my own hands and showing others the fun that can be had in creating things!

As I think back on all the things I have that were #MadeWithLove a few things stand out in my memory.

  • A doll cradle, #MadeWithLove by my grandfather filled with doll bedding #MadeWithLove by my grandmother. Definitely a favorite toy as a child and a wonderful keepsake that I can pass on to my children.
  • An afghan, #MadeWithLove by another grandmother for my childhood bedroom. It was various shades of pink with matching pillow. I loved it then and I still do. It was on my bed for years! Even now I it’s safely packed away for when I might be able to use it in my daughter’s room.

  • A quilt, #MadeWithLove by my mother. It was was assembled by my mother and then hand quilted by an older woman she knew. It also spent many years in my childhood bedroom and is now carefully stored for future use.

Those are just a few of the things I have been given that were #MadeWithLove, but that’s really just the beginning of my life #MadeWithLove.

Love is the defining ingredient

I have a wonderful family that has been #MadeWithLove.

I was blessed with a large extended family with strong ties. My mother’s parents have been married 66 years, had eight children, and now have 24 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  My father’s parents would have been married 57 years last September, had six children, and now have 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. All #MadeWithLove, giving me a wonderful example of unconditional love and acceptance.

My  husband and I have been married a little over a year. Our first child was born in July making us a family of three, #MadeWithLove. I thought I knew the definition of love when I married my husband, but our daughter has deepened the love I feel for my whole family.

The minute you were born IMG_0151

Since our daughter was born I have come to understand so much, but I have so much left to learn. One of the most important lessons so far is that I’m not perfect. I don’t have all the answers and I’m never going to, and that’s okay, because every minute of every day the things I do for my child are #MadeWithLove and that is what’s important.

I am a mother

Along with the things they’ve given me and the unconditional love and acceptance they’ve modeled, my family instilled in me a love and deep appreciation for all things handmade. I greatly enjoy being able to give gifts to others that have been #MadeWithLove, because I feel it is easier to put meaning in something handmade than in something store bought .  I would love to be able to make all my gifts, but life is busy and time is short. Inevitably I do my best to find store bought items that are #MadeWithLove.

gDiapers is a company that truly understands that motherhood is #MadeWithLove.  They makes wonderful diapers that provide a balance between disposables and cloth.

In honor of their #MadeWithLove campaign, gDiapers is hosting a unique gift chain on Instagram. If you would like to take part in this gift chain, head over their Instagram post and join in the fun!

Along with the Instagram gift chain, there will also be an upcoming Twitter chat (date and time TBD) about how motherhood is #MadeWithLove. During the conversation there will be a chance for participants to win awesome prizes from gDiapers! (Don’t forget to subscribe to my blog, enter your email in the sidebar, so you don’t miss out on any of the details.)

Read more about  the #MadeWithLove campaign over on The American Mama, her post ‘Do Your Kids Think You Are an Imperfect Mother?’ is a great look into the little-talked about side of motherhood. It’s so easy to look at your actions as a mother and get discouraged because it’s impossible to do everything right.

Embrace the imperfect parts of your life, thrive on them. They are what make your life #MadeWithLove.
